Tokyo’s Shin-toyosu Brillia Running Stadium embodies a simple but powerful belief: Everyone with a body is an athlete, and every athlete is welcome. Unlike most elite training facilities, both Olympians and Paralympians train for the 2020 Games on the same track at Brillia. The stadium also hosts a running program for young athletes, as well as an arts program that invites professional dancers and both able-bodied and disabled dance students to train together.
This mindful approach extended to the materials chosen for the design. Made from Mondo Super-X with a Nike Grind backing, the track walkway provides a sustainable alternative to other surfaces while meeting performance requirements for a 2020 Paralympics training center.
